Course Details

  • The Certificate In Family Therapy course is part-fulfillment of the Master of Social Science (Professional Counselling) programme
  • 20 face-to-face counselling hours in a family setting
  • 2 hours of clinical supervision

PSC80005 / Advanced Training in Family Therapy Interventions
1 role-play video-recording and 1 essay


Duration: Part-time, 3-months

Next Intake: 6 July 2017 to 16 September 2017

Course Completion

Once enrolled, students must fulfill the following requirements to earn the University Certificate in Family Therapy:

  1. Complete and submit all assignments.
  2. Complete 20 face-to-face counselling hours in a family setting.
  3. Complete 2 hours of clinical supervision.

A Certificate of Completion will be issued by Swinburne University of Technology upon succesful completion. The Certificate will state "University Certificate in Family Therapy".

Entry Requirements

  • Post-Graduate Diploma or Master in Counselling
  • Degree in Psychology or in any health-related discipline


This course is designed to examine contemporary theory concerning the role and function of the family and its interaction with the wider society. The course introduces participants to theory and practice of system approaches to family and couple therapy.
